Under the direction of the Manager, Capital Delivery, Infrastructure Renewal, the Technical Student - Capital Projects will be responsible for assisting Engineering Services with specific project requirements. Also assists in carrying out various types of inspections, site visits, and project monitoring. Applicant will also be responsible for assisting with the collection and input of data using various software programs.
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Civil Engineering or equivalent and/or combination of education and experience.
Strong organization, analytical skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a variety of personality types.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as the ability to work independently and with minimum supervision to meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks and to respect confidentiality.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy is necessary.
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, other Departments and staff.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Suite of Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer), Adobe Design Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, and Acrobat) ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
Class 'G' Driver's licence in good standing with reliable vehicle available for corporate business driving to sites throughout the Town of Newmarket.
Experience and/or a working knowledge of construction practices, on-site inspections and workplace safety and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
