The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of Northwest Region seeks a qualified individuals to join our team. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide operational support to the detachment. To provide administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.

Note: this position follows a shiftwork schedule that includes evenings, overnights, and weekends.

The results of this competition will be used to fill current and future opportunities with qualified eligible candidates during the next 12 months following the competition closing. There are no provisions for relocation, accommodation or travel (including meals or vehicles) for this position. Exact dates are to be determined.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.

Red Lake is located on Highway 105, 177kms north of Highway 17. The Red Lake Detachment provides policing services to the Municipality of Red Lake under a Section 10 Police Services Act contract, in addition to the Town of Ear Falls and surrounding area; all within the District of Kenora. In addition, Red Lake Detachment is the liaison detachment for the Pikangikum First Nation Police and coordinates the OPP's North West Region Provincial Deployment Program. The OPP provides these policing services from a modern host detachment facility in Red Lake and a satellite location in Ear Falls and Pikangikum.

What can I expect to do in this role?

To provide administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
• 40 w.p.m. typing speed.
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, Adequacy Standards, police, fire and other emergency service's procedures, practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of and skill in computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence, and ability to retrieve data/information and perform queries from multiple databases.
• Knowledge of records management practices to maintain an organized, up-to-date records system.
• Ability to transcribe video, audiotapes.
• Ability to independently plan and prioritize administrative work on a daily basis in accordance with established manuals, practices and procedures.
• Ability to use problem solving skills to provide assistance in fast paced or emergency situations.
• Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests, relay messages, and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services.
• Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports and summarize information.
