Outpatient Pharmacy Technician Student (Job ID: 8490)

Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist or a Registered Pharmacy technician;

Use appropriate aseptic technique, prepare intravenous medication as needed (e.g. botox for Clinics);

Ensure appropriate documentation for dispensing, crediting returns, and monitoring expiry dates, stock levels, etc.;

Prepare bulk-compounded products as required;

Monitor expiry dates and remove expired products for disposal, destruction or return to manufacturer consistent with facility policies and manufacturers, protocols;

Process expired narcotics and controlled drug to obtain approval for proper disposal;

Dispense in blister package, dossett or other patient adherence device as required;

Using the appropriate pharmacy information system, place orders maintaining appropriate documentation, e.g., purchase order, receiving report, packing slip, invoice and other relevant documentation;

Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;

Comply with established infection and prevention control best practices (e.g. IPAC core competencies);

Comply with the Code of Ethics from the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Enrolled at a recognized Pharmacy technician program at Community College;

A minimum of 2 years of experience (including practicum training) in a community pharmacy is preferred;

Prior experience in implementing pharmacy automation system preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office software;

Experience and demonstrated proficiency in education and training preferred;

Familiarity with aseptic techniques; strong knowledge of basic pharmacology and proper handling techniques for Pharmaceuticals;

Familiarity with Kroll Pharmacy software; strong skills in pharmaceutical calculations; knowledge of pharmacy automation technology, computerized materiel management and inventory control procedures an asset;

Familiarity with basic medication safety principles required;

Familiarity with equipment including electronic balances, counting machine, facsimile machine, photocopier, keyboard and computer terminal;

Very good attendance record;

Good attendance record.
