Job Description

Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
Department: Princess Margaret Research Institute
Work Model: Hybrid
Reports to: Physician and Head of Operations
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $24.10 - $30.12 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Weekdays, Monday - Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 year)
Closing Date: October 30, 2024

Position Summary

This AA II (clinical) role requires significant experience in time management while performing patient-related tasks within an extremely busy surgical oncology office environment. Applicants must have the ability to focus on the priorities of a rapidly changing day. The successful applicant should also be insightful, mature and tactful, remains calm under pressure and confident in their capability to perform well in the job.

Key Duties

  • Booking new and/or follow-up clinic visits; entering lab tests into EPIC or providing external lab requisitions; booking imaging and other tests/procedures and surgery
  • Notification of patient appointments and tests electronically
  • Reviewing and triaging internal and external referrals; providing referral outcomes and appointment details to patient and/or referring physician
  • Handling 2 phones lines, collecting messages and following through with needed actions while adhering to target timelines
  • Managing clinic rebooking, when needed
  • Supporting physician non-clinical admin, when needed

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent
  • Two to three (2 - 3) years related medical administrative support experience
  • Computer/word-processing, database and spreadsheet software experience; experience in a Microsoft Office environment
  • Previous work experience using EPIC (Electronic Patient Record) and PHS (Pathways Healthcare Scheduling) or other electronic systems preferred
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate as an active participant with others in assisting with the delivery of care to patients
  • Ability to maintain and protect patient confidentiality
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
  • Completion of a medical terminology course or a recognized post-secondary general or medical office administration program at the diploma level or equivalent an asset
  • Experience working in a teaching hospital environment an asset
