Applied AI Program Design & Delivery Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Applied AI Program Design & Delivery Intern will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience in facilitating industry adoption and knowledge transfer of AI at a leading AI institute. The objective of the internship role is to support Vector’s industry sponsors in developing, deploying, and scaling applications of AI within industry sponsor companies. Reporting to a Project Manager on the Applied AI Projects team, you will play a key role in ensuring the goals of the Industry Innovation work stream are met.

APPLIED INTERNSHIPS AT VECTOR

The applied internship program at Vector provides relevant, hands-on learning and work experience in machine learning and AI. During the paid internship, interns will have the opportunity to attend research, recruitment, and commercialization talks at Vector and connect with key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem. Applied internships may be full-time (36.25 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) over the Winter academic term (January 6 - April 25, 2025) with an opportunity to continue over the Summer 2025 academic term. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Consistent with Vector’s goals in this program to relieve disadvantages and alleviate the under-representation of Black and Indigenous people in AI, and to attempt to achieve equal opportunity in the field of AI, preference in hiring will be given to qualified Black and Indigenous persons, studying at or having recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institute, who self-identify as such in the application process. This initiative is designed to meet the criteria of a special program under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and management of AI upskilling and education programs, including talk series, multi-day workshops, and multi-week trainings;

  • Assist in the design, development, and management of AI programs and collaborative projects, including managing project plans and supporting logistics;

  • Leverage your AI and ML knowledge to recommend relevant use cases, guest speakers, and engaging content for seminars and workshops; contribute to discussions on AI applications;

  • Support the delivery of Industry Innovation programs by coordinating and facilitating meetings with industry sponsors, preparing necessary documents, tracking action items, and ensuring timely follow-up;

  • Conduct and audit research on content for AI talk series and webinars, synthesize findings from research papers, and perform literature reviews;

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis and create reports for both training programs and collaborative projects; support end-of-course deliverables with comprehensive reporting; and,

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals of the Industry Innovation work stream.

The specific project or program will be determined by the interview team’s assessment of your skills and your background, and will take into account your professional interests.


PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • You are a self-identified Black or Indigenous student or postdoc (Indigenous ancestry or heritage – First Nations (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit) or a recent graduate.

  • You are in second year or higher, studying at a Canadian university or college, or a recent graduate within one semester of graduation.

  • You are motivated to apply machine learning techniques to real-world problems.

  • You act as a technical translator to help non-technical people understand machine learning and other AI techniques.

  • Familiarity with GSuite and/or MS Office 365 applications would be an asset.

  • You are organized and efficient, with strong problem-solving skills; experience in project management considered an asset.

  • You are creative and enjoy collaborating within a small, results-driven entrepreneurial environment.

Compensation: $25/hour.
