Position: Architectural Co-op Student Coordinator - Design and Architecture (2)

Unity Health Toronto (St. Michael's Hospital) is a large teaching hospital, covering over 1.5 million square feet in the heart of downtown Toronto. Unity Health Toronto is comprised of three hospitals, St. Michael's Hospital, Providence Healthcare and St. Joseph's Health Centre. Together, we are committed to a shared purpose of advancing the health of our patients and our urban communities.

We have an exciting opportunity for an independent self-starter, reporting to the Director, Planning and Redevelopment in the department of Planning & Redevelopment. This department is responsible for planning all construction and renovations within the facility.

St. Michael's Hospital is continually upgrading the facility and expanding departments. As part of this, the Architectural Coordinator would assist on numerous projects to help achieve St. Michael's Hospital's goal of being recognized internationally as the finest academic health-care provider in Canada.

Previous Architectural Students have worked on projects such as:

  • Doctor's exam rooms and offices
  • Design of administration and clinical spaces
  • Furniture and space audits
  • Drawing and standards updates

As a member of the Planning & Redevelopment team, your duties would include:

  • Assistance managing various construction projects, including design, materials and service procurement, contract administration and site coordination
  • Acting as a liaison between internal clients (doctors, nurses, etc.) and external contractors
  • Assisting with moves by creating floor plans with furniture layout options
  • Maintaining an inventory of existing furniture for re-application, and assisting staff with ordering new furniture
  • Updating of records and drawings related to renovations
  • Receiving project requests, gathering project scope of work, obtaining proper authorization to proceed, proceeding with project start-up, and monitoring overall project status to completion

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage your time between multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities
  • Knowledge of building systems and equipment (knowledge of hospital equipment is a benefit)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently as well in a group
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)

Length of Temporary Contract: 4 months
