Hours: 24 hours per week
Salary: $51.54 - $64.43 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Weekdays
Status: Temporary Part Time (until June 2025)

Position Summary
The Schroeder Arthritis Institute is the largest multidisciplinary arthritis hub in Canada, integrating medical, surgical and basic science aspects of Hand, Orthopedics, Osteoporosis and Rheumatology with a goal of making a global impact in discovery, learning and patient care. The Orthopedic Program within the Schroeder Arthritis Institute is embarking on advancing integrated Arthritis care for the future to improve patient and essential care partner experience and outcomes throughout their care journey.

Duties

  • Utilizes and demonstrates advanced knowledge and decision making skills to complete comprehensive assessment, diagnose and manage the care of patients
  • Identifies and orders diagnostics tests/procedures in accordance with the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, approved medical directives, and the Public Hospital Act
  • Initiates and manages the care of patients by formulating and implementing a care plan to treat disease or disorders, within scope of practices, including prescribing pharmacological, complementary or counselling interventions; documents findings and care provided in consultation with physician partner as appropriate
  • Plans and implements strategies to promote health and prevent illness with individuals, families and groups
  • Initiates individual, family and group promotion of health/wellness
  • Provides individual counseling/instruction to facilitate patient/family understanding and management of specific health and lifestyle problems
  • Performs quality improvement and administrative responsibilities to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the program
  • Participates in quality management initiatives and decision-making process on issues that impact clinical practice

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Masters degree program in Nursing
  • Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate, or in progress
  • Current certificate of (licensure)/registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as RN (EC), or in process of obtaining
  • Membership in the Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) organizations relevant to the role
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Five (5) years of nursing experience, including one (1) year in an advanced role
  • Experience in nursing research methodology
  • Ability and commitment to develop a collaborative practice with medical, allied health and alternative health practitioners
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Program planning and evaluation methodology skills
