Job Description

Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Center
Department: Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship
Reports to: Manager, Supportive Care
Hours: 18.75 hours per week
Wage range: $40.98 - $51.22 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Status: Temporary Part Time (Approximately 10 months)
Closing Date: September 30, 2024

The Occupational Therapist is an integral member of the outpatient Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship team, allied health and clinical program. Through the provision of individual and group-based patient and non-patient care activities, the OT effectively enhances the quality of life of patients by:

  • Helping patients prevent, alleviate, or minimize dysfunction to facilitate their successful engagement in meaningful activities at home, in the community and workplace.
  • Providing comprehensive assessment, treatment and consultation services primarily for patients with oncology diagnoses.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the inter-professional team to provide patient focused care.
  • Provide education to patients and their families
  • Provides training and supervision for Occupational Therapy students.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, committees and quality initiatives in the Department and relevant Programs/Services.
  • Complies with and commits to patient safety and hospital policies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy (B.Sc. (OT)) or equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Member of Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) is preferred
  • The ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and to function in an independent, self directed manner is required.
  • Previous experience working as an OT in a physical medicine and rehabilitation setting is required.
  • Previous experience working with oncology patients is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Mindfulness and Motivation interviewing would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates strong and effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication skills
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
