Salary: $53,303 - $63,963 Annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Position Summary
We are recruiting a curious and driven Postdoctoral Researcher to join our group on a funded project investigating mechanisms of clonal hematopoiesis-accelerated oncogenesis and implementing innovative preventative strategies. We are based at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, with full support from state-of-the-art facilities across Toronto's Discovery District. We study population cohorts, primary patient samples with single-cell technologies, and pre-clinical animal models to define and target clonal hematopoiesis-induced pathology.

Duties

  • Plan and carry out experiments: design and execute laboratory experiments using techniques in molecular and cell biology to investigate clonal hematopoiesis as a driver of cancer formation and novel targetable axis for early intervention.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Undertake comprehensive bioinformatic and statistical analyses to interpret experiments and draw meaningful conclusions from results.
  • Cell isolation: isolate and characterize cell populations from hematopoietic and tumor tissues using flow cytometry and cell sorting for analysis in functional assays.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Closely collaborate with other researchers including post-doctoral fellows, technicians, and students to maintain a positive, supportive research environment
  • Literature Review and Scientific Development: Keep up to date on research advancements in clonal hematopoiesis and somatic mosaicism to identify new research opportunities and propose novel hypotheses.
  • Writing: Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant applications that secure additional funding for research projects.
  • Scientific mentorship: mentor and direct junior trainees including graduate or undergraduate students on designing, performing, and analyzing experiments.
  • Presentations: Regularly present research findings at lab meetings, local seminars, national/international conferences to share progress and obtain feedback.

Qualifications

  • PhD must be obtained within the previous 5 years, or an MD obtained within the previous 10 years
  • Expertise in molecular biology and experience with computational biology/data analysis
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven track record of scientific publications
  • Experience in flow cytometry or working with animals is an asset.
  • A background in cancer biology, genetics, hematopoiesis, or immunology is valued
