Position Summary

The successful candidate will support the clinical research activities of the Schroeder Pain Assessment and Rehabilitation Research Centre (SPARC) activities at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute - University Centre (550 University Ave, Toronto).

SPARC is a clinical-research interdisciplinary program for the investigation of pain and chronic pain disorders involving research with backgrounds in physical medicine and rehabilitation, biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, clinical epidemiology and kinesiology. We are looking for a motivated individual who wishes to engage and lead innovative and translational clinical research endeavours with a focus on improving patient health outcomes. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for leading clinical research that can be translated and used as a foundation for developing evidence-based clinical practice models. The postdoctoral fellow will collaborate closely with clinicians including physiatrists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, psychologists, physiologists and biomedical engineers. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the coordination of multiple research studies from its inception to its completion

Duties:

  • Develop protocols for functional and structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using high field (7T), mid—field (3T) and low field (0.5T) MRI systems.
  • Analyze MRI results using current software tools and write up findings as 1st author papers
  • Preparation and submission of manuscripts of study findings
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings
  • Help in the supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students
  • Maintaining a research participant database
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in medical physics, engineering or neuroscience focused on quantitative medical imaging (MRI and or PET/CT imaging)
  • Awarded a PhD within 5 years at the time of application, or an MD or DDS within the previous 10 years
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis background
  • Advanced clinical research experience, especially with data analysis
  • Strong writing skills
  • A keen motivation to make a difference and to achieve goals
  • Excellent record of scientific publication and communication
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and effective time management
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with the machine learning, database development and management of large datasets, including data entry and data cleaning would be an asset
  • Excellent track record of meeting deadlines and project targets
