The Position

We have multiple openings for Registered Respiratory Therapists for casual roles within Rehab and Complex Continuing Care. As an RRT, you will be an essential member of a child's care team during their rehabilitation journey. You will work with a passionate, compassionate, and highly skilled team who are committed to providing quality care and are highly supportive of the RRT role.

Important to know:

  • We are seeking candidates with a typical availability to cover 2 shifts per week; as a casual position, the number of scheduled shifts will vary depending on operational needs and specific hours or FTE are not guaranteed
  • Within a 24-hour model of care, shifts may include daytime, evening, overnight, weekends and holidays
  • Qualified RRTs at all career stages are welcome and encouraged to apply

Key Responsibilities

  • Follows the status of clients requiring respiratory care, and suggesting interventions to maximize such care
  • Presents in-services and provides appropriate education for staff, clients and families
  • Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team
  • Ensures duties are completed and documented as necessary
  • Responds to all STAT (Code Blue) calls
  • Demonstrates therapeutic relationships with clients and caregivers
  • Follows direction of and makes suggestions for improvement to policies and procedures
  • Identifies and resolves equipment problems or potential equipment problems evaluates and tests new equipment
  • Identifies and implements mechanisms of professional growth through continuing education
  • Demonstrates personal and professional standards in keeping with the C.R.T.O.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Performs regularly scheduled on-call duties
  • Will adhere to core principles of Client and Family Centered Care, which is demonstrated through: collaboration and information sharing; cooperation and participation; and respect with families, service agencies and the community at large
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Qualifications

  • Current licensure with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Membership in C.S.R.T. and or R.T.S.O. is preferred
  • Current BCLS certificate—Basic Rescuer
  • Experience in critical care, respiratory rehab, and complex continuing care
  • Experience with children with neuromuscular conditions (eg. DMD) preferred
  • Experience in chronic respiratory care/rehab an asset
  • Demonstrated written and verbal English language skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with a changing environment and client population
  • Proven ability to independently take initiative and the ability to function effectively as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team
