Position Summary:
The Hodaie lab is involved in the design and creation of a number of online tools for the purposes of surgical education. The ideal candidate for this role will have knowledge of medicine, and will be keen in applying this knowledge to further surgical education globally.

This role includes working with a variety of eLearning technologies to advance surgical education in Canada as well as low resource areas. As a participant in this process, the Research Analyst position will have the following responsibilities:

Building and maintaining online courses using a variety of eLearning platforms and Learning Management Systems software

Using Instructional Design principles to create effective learning objectives, activities, and assessments

Generating and organizing course materials with a variety of educational goals, including development of multimedia that may consist of audio narration, videos, illustrations, and animations

Active participation in courses, familiarity with participants and their learning needs, ensuring that learning objectives are met and on track

Technical, administrative, and managerial duties: setting up courses, registrations, uploading course materials, general website maintenance

Coordinating and collaborating with education partners, within or outside institution, and other participating faculty

Participation in academic activities including conferences, research manuscripts, generation of guidelines and documents

Researching new technologies to improve eLearning development processes

Implementing a variety of assessment tools to track educational progress


Duties

  • Assists in the modification and maintenance of electronic and paper data management systems.
  • Coordinates necessary data flow both internally, as well as externally with collaborators from other sites.
  • Coordination of research studies.
  • Management of study protocols.
  • May obtain medical data on research subjects from registries or other hospitals.
  • May participate in qualitative analyses of data collected from patients.
  • May assist in interpretation of results and preparation of material for presentation, publication and/or grants.
  • May maintain regulatory documents
  • May participate in department review of data collection strategies

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-year BSc degree however MD degree, Masters, or PhD in relevant fields is preferred
  • Expertise in Instructional Design for creating eLearning course materials
  • Proficient computer skills for generating education modules, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in photo and video editing softwares (e.g., Adobe creative tools, Canva)
  • Familiarity and comfort with online education systems such as Moodle
  • Strong self-directed learning skills - ability to work independently and with others will be considered an asset
  • Experience using common research databases such as PubMed and reference management software
  • Committed to continuous learning and improvement
