Description

We are seeking a Research Manager with experience working with children with disabilities in a fast paced research environment. As a Research Manager within the Bloorview Research Institute the successful candidate will be required to work alongside an interdisciplinary research team working in the field of childhood disability research and participate in BRI related events, committees and meetings. Strong critical appraisal skills, effective communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills as well as excellent organization, time management, and priority setting skills are critical to the success of this position. Within this role the Research Manager will have the opportunity to work within multiple research labs, with different scientists and investigators whose research is focused on child development, participation and inclusion, acquired brain injury and/or applied innovation.

Key Responsibilities

General:

  • Ensure quality, integrity and security on all study related information and data
  • Oversee research contracts and budgets
  • Develop, manage and forecast study budgets
  • Contribute to the preparation of required reports and knowledge translation projects (e.g. presentations, manuscripts, stakeholder progress reports, conference publications)
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and key project stakeholders
  • Ensure research is conducted in compliance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement, Good Clinical Practice, and Health Canada regulations and policies governing clinical research (e.g.TCPS-2, ICH GCP, Health Canada & FDA)
  • Support team activities (i.e. schedule meetings, preparing agendas/materials, taking minutes) and assist with research and related administrative tasks as required

Specific:

  • This role will specifically oversee CPHI Genome project (large multisite network) launch and execution: Implement comprehensive plans for study initiation, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies
  • Manage the Research Ethics Board Submissions through the preparation and submission of documents (Protocol, informed consent, budget, SFO review etc.) to the Research Ethics Board, coordinate with the other sites to ensure all research activities meet ethical standards and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate across sites to ensure deliverables and KPIs are met
  • Support the development and implementation of the governance structure for CPHI Genome project, including independently planning, facilitating, and keeping records of meetings across the CPHI Genome project governance structure
  • Provide program oversight by managing the day-to-day operations of CPHI Genome project, ensuring alignment with study objectives, compliance with relevant REB, ethical and legal regulations
  • Track and report (internally and externally to funders) on deliverables/ milestones and study finances to support transparency and alignment among relevant stakeholders
  • Support community building across different project sites and serve as a CPHI Genome project representative in outreach, implementation, and knowledge translation activities

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A Master's degree in a health-related field or a degree/diploma in project management
  • A minimum of two years of experience managing/supporting research projects. Formal project management or business management training (e.g. PMP, MBA) are assets.
  • Knowledge of basic genetics concepts and familiarity with genomic technologies as well as ethical, legal, and social issues relating to medical genomics and genomic data sharing is an asset
  • Experience with providing strategic direction or operational oversight of clinical research activities is desired (grant applications and reporting, research ethics board submissions and maintenance, research contracts)
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing project timelines and sub-contracts
  • Demonstrated success and understanding of managing finances and budgets for projects
  • Advanced knowledge of research practice, procedures, regulations, and research ethics board applications
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to with the ability to take direction and work autonomously, manage upward, and work collaboratively within diverse teams
  • Proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft Office tools (including SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and video-conferencing tools (Teams, Zoom) is necessary. Experience with database management tools (e.g. RedCap) and version control tools is an asset.
