Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $29.24 - $36.55 per hour: To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy
Shift: Monday - Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 year contract)

Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior lab staff, the Research Technician II will carry out a range of laboratory techniques to develop novel biomarkers and treatments for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients.

Duties

  • Generating patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models in mice
  • Assessing novel treatment strategies in PDX models
  • Evaluating molecular markers in patient tumor tissues
  • Tissue culture of a range of cell types/cancer cell lines
  • Basic molecular biology techniques such as RNA extractions, qRT-PCR, Western blots, etc.
  • Immunostaining of tumor tissues (immunihistochemistry or immunofluorescence)
  • Maintenance of organized and detailed lab notes
  • Data analysis (e.g. graphing data)

Qualifications

  • At minimum, Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or similar field, required
  • At minimum, three (3) years related and experience in basic techniques such as cell culture, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blots, required
  • Previous experience with handling laboratory mice, required
  • Advanced mouse techniques such as surgical procedures, preferred
  • Additional laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, preferred
  • Flow cytometry experience, preferred
  • Biostatistical data analysis and/or analysis of high throughput data such as RNAseq, preferred
