Job Description

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Monday to Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time
Closing Date: April 18, 2025

  • Perform molecular biological techniques to support electrophysiological experiments with animal and human tissue, including but not limited to slice culture, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy imaging.
  • Conduct imaging experiments using confocal microscopy and other imaging techniques.
  • Perform and analyze electrophysiology experiments in a wet lab setting.
  • Interpret tests and experimental results, ensuring accuracy and consistency in data collection.
  • Organize and maintain the animal colony, including daily inventory updates, breeding, timed pregnancy, weaning, and genotyping.
  • Animal surgery experience required.
  • Assist with daily lab operations, including organizing, monitoring, and maintaining inventories of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
  • Contact vendors for ordering, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment and chemicals.
  • Organize, renew, and update safety documents, permits, certificates, and protocols.
  • Ensure all staff are trained and certified in relevant safety and operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in an electrophysiology lab, including hands-on work with electrophysiological experiments.
  • Proficiency in imaging techniques, including confocal microscopy.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques such as immunohistochemistry, slice culture, and microscopy imaging.
  • Experience working with animal models, including handling, breeding, genotyping, and colony management.
  • Knowledge of electrophysiology techniques and data interpretation.
  • Experience with confocal and fluorescence microscopy for imaging experiments.
  • Proficiency in molecular techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in experimental procedures and data recording.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and external vendors.
