About Us:

The Financial Institutions Policy Branch provides the Ministry of Finance with policy research, analysis and development services regarding Ontario's interest in, and regulation of, the financial services sector, including the insurance, credit union and mortgage broker sectors. It also provides analytical support and policy advice on a wide range of microeconomic issues related to economic growth and job creation.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities

In this role, you will:

• Lead the development and implementation of policy and regulatory solutions for financial services sectors including, insurance, mortgage brokers, and credit unions.
• Foster strong relationships with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) and key industry stakeholders to influence and shape regulatory practices and policies.
• Ensure that regulatory initiatives and legislative reviews are strategically aligned with government priorities and the evolving financial services landscape.
• Provide strategic advice and high-level briefings for senior decision-makers, overseeing statutory reviews of legislation and developing strategic solutions to address emerging policy challenges.
• Strategically manage stakeholder roundtables and consultations to gather insights, build consensus, and drive policy initiatives forward.
• Mentor a high-performing team of policy professionals, promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous professional development.

Leadership Experience:

• You have experience managing and leading teams within large, complex work environments.
• You coach team members to unlock their full potential, drive individual and collective growth and team success
• You have demonstrated experience in leading transformational initiatives and developing innovative policy to advance ministry strategies and goals.
• You have superior organizational skills to establish priorities, meet deadlines and coordinate a number of complex issues/projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Policy Expertise:

• You possess a strong background in strategic policy analysis, with a demonstrated ability to conduct thorough assessments of legislative and regulatory frameworks.
• You bring expertise in navigating cabinet submissions, legislative procedures, and governmental decision-making processes.
• You can determine long-term issues, problems and opportunities and develop sound strategies and plans to address financial sustainability challenges.
• You have extensive experience in financial services regulatory policy and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective regulatory policies.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You have strong analytical skills to assess policy issues and develop innovative solutions.
• You demonstrate the ability to conduct thorough statutory reviews and identify legislative and regulatory improvements.
• You have strategic thinking skills to address emerging policy challenges and align regulatory initiatives with government priorities.
• You are proficient in using data and research to inform policy decisions.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You have proven experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse internal and external partners.
• You have demonstrated experience communicating and presenting complex and technical information to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• You demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills to articulate strategy, direction, advice and recommendations.
• You possess strong political acuity to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence policy outcomes.
