Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Salary: $34.73 to 43.41 hourly. (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Evenings/Overnights schedule flexibility to enhance leadership coverage
Status: Temporary Full-Time (contract end date January 2026)

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Supervisor, Security Operations to lead and oversee our security teams. In this critical role, you will ensure the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors, while managing day-to-day operations, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with external agencies. This role requires a proactive leader with a strong background in security management, staff supervision, and emergency response. The Supervisor will oversee staff management, ensure compliance with safety standards, and foster effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. The role involves varied hours, with the majority scheduled during evenings, nights, and weekends.

Duties

  • Staff Leadership & Administration:
    • Lead Security Operations - Exemplify a commitment to ethical service by treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
    • Oversee daily security operations, assign duties, and manage staffing levels.
    • Provide training, coaching, and performance reviews for security personnel.
    • Address staffing challenges and escalate issues as needed.
    • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling of security staff.
    • Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategic plans aimed at increasing operational efficiency and reducing labor grievances.
    • Corporate Representation - Represent the Security Operations department on UHN committees and at external conferences, contributing to corporate initiatives that enhance UHN's mission and values.
    • Continuous Learning - Maintain professional growth through seminars and workshops to stay current with the latest trends in the field of security operations.
  • Emergency Management:
    • Coordinate security responses to emergencies and hospital codes (e.g., Code White, Code Red).
    • Liaise with external emergency services (e.g., police, fire, EMS) as needed.
    • Document and follow up on all emergency incidents.
  • Investigation & Documentation:
    • Conduct detailed investigations of incidents, including thefts and other security breaches.
    • Maintain accurate records in security and hospital reporting systems.
    • Perform regular audits of security-sensitive areas.
  • Loss Prevention & Risk Management:
    • Identify and address potential security risks.
    • Monitor security operations to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
    • Establish and maintain access control systems, including visitor and employee identification processes.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Law Enforcement, Security, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Current and valid Security License in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act.
  • Trained in Conflict Communication (de-escalation) and Use of Force
  • Membership in the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) and Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) certification - preferred
  • Experience in a security leadership role, preferably within a healthcare or similar environment
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
