Technical Program Management Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Technical Program Management Intern, you will support the planning and execution of AI research and engineering projects for the AI Engineering Team. You will collaborate with some of the best and brightest AI engineering staff and machine learning researchers to ensure thorough planning and and timely delivery of software projects. This internship is ideal for individuals with strong organizational skills, a passion for AI, and an interest in program management. You will work closely with an AI Engineering Technical Program Manager on your projects for day-to-day direction.

APPLIED INTERNSHIPS AT VECTOR

The applied internship program at Vector provides relevant, hands-on learning and work experience in machine learning and AI. During the paid internship, interns will have the opportunity to attend research, recruitment, and commercialization talks at Vector and connect with key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem. Applied internships may be full-time (36.25 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) over the Summer academic term (May 5 - August 29, 2025) with an opportunity to continue over the Fall 2025 academic term. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Consistent with Vector's goals in this program to relieve disadvantages and alleviate the under-representation of Black and Indigenous people in AI, and to attempt to achieve equal opportunity in the field of AI, preference in hiring will be given to qualified Black and Indigenous persons, studying at or having recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institute, who self-identify as such in the application process. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Coordination: Assist in managing project timelines, deliverables, and resources for ongoing AI research and engineering initiatives utilizing agile methods;

  • Documentation: Maintain and organize project documentation, including meeting notes, progress updates, and technical reports;

  • Risk Management: Identify potential roadblocks or risks in project execution and collaborate with teams to implement solutions;

  • Process Improvement: Contribute to improving workflows and processes by gathering feedback and suggesting enhancements;

  • Tool Management: Support the team in using project management tools (e.g., ClickUp) to track progress and prioritize tasks; and,

  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • You are a self-identified Black or Indigenous student or postdoc (Indigenous ancestry or heritage - First Nations (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit) or a recent graduate.

  • You are in second year or higher, studying at a Canadian university or college, or a recent graduate within one semester of graduation.

  • Experience in machine learning and/or statistics.

  • Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., ClickUp, Jira, Asana, etc.)

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.


NICE TO HAVE

  • Coursework or experience in AI/ML, software engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience in coordinating small projects or team initiatives utilizing Agile methodologies.

  • Data science experience is considered an asset.

  • You are creative and enjoy collaborating within a small entrepreneurial environment that is results-driven.

  • You are motivated by continuous learning and the opportunity to make a difference and a real contribution to the AI ecosystem.


Compensation: $25/hour.
