Position Information:

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Mental Health and Addictions Nurse Educator and Policy Consultant to assist in the development and implementation of our new HART HUB program. This role is critical in providing clinical education, staff training, and policy guidance to ensure the highest standards of care for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, and who are experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will have strong background in nursing education, mental health policy, and program development.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a Master's or Doctorate in Nursing, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (preferred) or extensive experience in mental health and addictions services.
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in mental health and substance use treatment.
• Experience in nursing education, curriculum development, and staff training.
• Knowledge of policy development, regulatory compliance, and healthcare advocacy related to mental health and addiction.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and educate diverse teams.
• Proficiency in using technology for training delivery, such as e-learning platforms and simulation-based education.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for nursing staff and healthcare professionals on mental health and addiction care best practices.
• Assist in the creation and implementation of policies, protocols, and procedures to support evidence-based mental health and addiction services.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, social workers, and administrators, to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
• Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in staff knowledge and program structure, recommending improvements based on current research and clinical guidelines.
• Provide mentorship and continuing education opportunities to enhance staff competencies in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis intervention.
• Support the integration of culturally competent and people-centered approaches in mental health and addiction services.
• Develop educational materials and resources for patients, families, and caregivers to improve mental health literacy and engagement in care.
• Advocate for policy changes at institutional, local, and provincial levels to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
• Monitor program effectiveness through data analysis and feedback, making necessary adjustments to training and policies as needed.
• Stay updated on emerging trends, legislative changes, and best practices in mental health and addiction nursing.

Preferred Skills:
• Experience in program development and implementation.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
• Ability to navigate and influence healthcare policies at multiple levels.
• Research and data analysis skills to assess program impact and training effectiveness.
• Change and project management knowledge ((including Adult Learning Theory)
• Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Capacity to work and communicate effectively with all levels of medical and hospital staff
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and maximum communication
• Demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of health professionals
• Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and conflict resolution
• Skill in motivating and working effectively with staff, clients, teams, and colleagues.
• Ability to analyze, evaluate, implement and use new technologies and tools to assist with this analysis
• Demonstrated ability to understand and support evidence-based practice
