Hours: Weekdays & Alternating Weekends - Various Shifts Including 5:45am - 1:45pm, 7:00am - 3:00pm, 11:30am - 7:30pm
Status: Temporary Part-Time (15 months)
Closing Date: September 19, 2024

Position Summary

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that patient meal services are prepared, prethermalized and delivered in an efficient, safe, timely, and cost effective manner.

Duties

  • Ensure adequate staff resources are scheduled by reviewing staffing requirements and assigning employees according to their job training. Ensure last minute replacement staff are arranged for employee absences by following established procedures.
  • Supervise staff in various activities such as food portioning for belt lines, dish room, food service work on unit and delivery of meals and nourishments. Provide ongoing feedback on staff performance both formally through appraisals and informally during daily supervision. Conduct employee investigations, and document/initiate disciplinary action as deemed necessary. Address attendance management with staff and ensure compliance with Centre policies.
  • Accountable for belt line output by checking trays are accurate to specified diet order, portioning is correct, checking temperatures (audits), authorizing appropriate substitutions and alerting diet office of any patient menu concerns. This includes ensuring cold production begins and ends on schedule.
  • Visit patients and/or their families to ensure their understanding of and satisfaction with meal services by explaining menu process, determining allergies, identifying like and dislikes, religious preferences and advising how to contact the service should the need arise.
  • Communicate with nursing staff on patient related issues or operational requirements
  • Review and analyze production and tally sheets by comparing production to actual menu selections (tally count). Distribute reports on water jug delivery, nourishment delivery, and supplements.
  • Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs as needed according to Departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Ongoing development of staff, i.e. orientation of new staff and retraining of existing staff.
  • An employee's disciplinary and attendance record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications

Qualifications

  • Community College Diploma (Food Service Supervisor) required
  • Canadian Food Handler's Certification upon hire and recertify this credential every five years required
  • Canadian Society of Nutritional Management
  • Ontario Society of Nutritional Management
  • 2-3 years related supervisory experience in an unionized environment
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to effectively manage and resolve conflict
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends
  • Knowledge of Computrition software preferred
