Job Summary:


The Procurement Manager will be responsible for overseeing the sourcing and purchasing of critical materials, services, and technologies. The candidate will be responsible for managing relationships with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and other critical vendors, negotiating contracts, collaborating closely with internal scientific teams to meet project needs, and other stakeholders within the organization to meet corporate needs.

This is a contract (12 months) position, eligible to work in a hybrid environment from our Vancouver / Montreal location.


Key Responsibilities:


Procurement Strategy

  • Procurement strategy development and implementation
  • Ensuring effective and efficient sourcing of materials and services that are required to support organizational goals

R&D Projects - Vendor and CRO Management

  • Develop and manage CRO and vendor relationships to meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Lead vendor selection, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
  • Assess CRO and vendor performance and compliance.

Corporate - Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage relationships with external suppliers to ensure that the organization acquires corporate goods and services effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with corporate goals.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with scientists, project managers, and other internal stakeholders to understand organizational requirements and ensure the timely availability of necessary goods and services.
  • Serve as a bridge between internal stakeholders and vendors, ensuring clear communication and alignment on organizational needs.

Contract Management and Negotiations

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors to ensure favorable terms and adherence to quality and regulatory standards.
  • Review contract performance and initiate renewals or renegotiations as necessary to maintain cost-effectiveness and quality.

Risk and Compliance Management

  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with relevant regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain, including evaluating vendor capabilities and ensuring business continuity.

Budget Management and Reporting

  • Track and report on procurement spending, providing insights to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • Analyze data spent to identify cost-saving opportunities and provide reports to senior management on procurement performance.

Capital Expenses Management

  • In collaboration with finance department - oversee and manage capital expenses ensuring financial compliance: budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring expenditures related to lab equipment, research instruments, IT equipment, and other capital expenditures essential for the organization.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business, supply chain management, or a related field;
  • CPM, or SCPM certifications considered a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience - proficiency in procurement processes, procurement systems, contract management, and vendor management within the life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
  • Knowledge of the drug discovery and preclinical research landscape, including experience working with CROs.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Experience in RFP scoring and evaluation processes.
  • Strategic thinking with an eye for detail and an ability to identify and mitigate risks.

Position Base Salary Range: 98,400 - 135,300

The salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

In this case, the successful candidate for this position is required to have an excellent command of English, both spoken and written, due to the fact that the tasks to be performed include the responsibility to maintain, on a continuous and daily basis, relations with our Canadian team, whose main language of oral and written exchange is English, and to be able to discuss scientific and business concepts competently and in detail in this language.
