Job Summary and Requirements

This opportunity is for (1) full-time term position (temporary assignments will be considered) working 75 hours biweekly.

The Workers' Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) administers workplace health and safety and workers' compensation in the territory. WSCB's mission is to assist workers and employers in preventing work-related physical and psychological injuries, illnesses and disabilities. The Role:

The Corporate Services branch is a collaborative team responsible for all WSCB's communications, policies, website maintenance, and social media updates. Reporting to the Manager, Social Marketing & Communications and following the organization's Strategic Plan, the Communications Analyst provides a full range of communications, public relations, social marketing, fielding media inquiries, drafting ministerial briefing notes, and community engagement services to support the Board's goals as an organization. The responsibilities of the incumbent include graphic design, developing communication plans, updating publications and external website, planning events and crafting speeches and stories for the annual report.

Essential Qualification:

  • Successful completion of course-work in communications or public relations
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Experience with public engagement, including developing surveys, and the coordination and facilitation of events and presentations
  • Experience researching, and preparing key messaging and a wide variety of communications products such as speaking notes, website and social media content, advertisements, news releases, and formal correspondence
  • Experience managing complex, high-profile projects with a broad range of internal and external clients.
  • Significant experience with media relations and issues management
  • Proficiency with software such as the Microsoft Office suite, cloud-based web and mobile apps and website content management including some working knowledge of HTML

Candidates who have significant experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills which demonstrate the ability to work and listen to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills that demonstrate high levels of tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills
  • Ability to deliver client-focused services and products, with an understanding of online user experience
  • Ability to prioritize, take initiative, and manage multiple projects with critical deadlines
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective communication strategies
  • Ability to work proactively and responsively with media
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, think critically and make appropriate recommendations
