The role of a Community Services employee reaches across the territory. Community Services staff are very passionate to better their community, empowering Yukoners to lead healthy, productive, and resilient lives through accessible and integrated programs.

The Yukon government is seeking a highly skilled executive to fill the role of Deputy Minister of Community Services. Reporting to the Premier and relevant Ministers, this at pleasure appointment works in partnership with stakeholders, other departments, and governments to carry out and fulfill their mandated responsibilities, deliver on government priorities, and advance reconciliation with Yukon First Nations to move our territory forward.

The Deputy Minister oversees three diverse program areas:

  • Protective Services
  • Community Development
  • Regulatory and Consumer Services

The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success as a collaborative, strategic, influential, and service-oriented leader who has effectively committed and applied resources to achieve positive and meaningful results. You can balance multiple priorities in a complex, multi-disciplinary and often high-profile work environment and build effective relationships within your department, across government and externally (federal, provincial/territorial, municipal, First Nations). Through visionary leadership, political acumen, resilience, and a willingness to take calculated risks, you can integrate and operationalize significant and fast paced change. You model appropriate behaviors and promote a highly engaged workforce through organizational commitment, supportive relationships, collaboration, self-awareness, social intelligence, and ethical decision making. You will consistently demonstrate integrity, honesty, and transparency in all professional interactions and decision-making processes and build and maintain trust with stakeholders, including the public, government officials, and community partners.
